The Safe Passage Tennis Program continues to operate on the core assumption that success must involve the community. This includes tennis professionals, parents, young professionals, seniors, guardians and volunteers. We have overcome the obstacles that traditionally stand between children and tennis.
- Affordable, professional instruction; proper equipment and facilities; and access to a complete tennis curriculum that offers pathways for whatever level a youngster wants to aspire to.
- Quality tennis instruction is provided by USPTA & USPTR certified tennis instructors. Instructors are carefully screened and trained in the philosophies and teaching methods established for the Safe Passage Tennis Program Curriculum.
- Donations from tennis equipment manufacturers and local tennis players enable the program to provide tennis equipment to junior participants who are unable to purchase equipment themselves.
Once these obstacles have been overcome, we are then able to provide children with a structured curriculum that encourages participation, discipline, goal setting and personal responsibility. Through this consistent, year round program, progress of the students is monitored and rewarded on a regular basis.
Ultimately, the program teaches and develops children's interpersonal and social skills through exposure to tennis. The organization strives to develop skills that will better prepare children for their future by focusing on decision-making skills, problem solving, self-esteem, and teamwork. The development of a curriculum based on sportsmanship, not winning or losing, is key to maintaining a respect for the self and game.
After-school Program Classes are conducted five days a week after school between the hours of 4pm to 8pm. Weekend activities include tournament play and jr. team tennis league. Safe Passage partners with the Home Depot Center and California State University Dominguez Hills to provide use of their their tennis facilities for year round tennis.
